Serge Girishya’s New Film Dark Shujaa Set for Release on March 27

Rwandan director Serge Girishya is set to release his new film, Dark Shujaa, on March 27, 2025. Known for his unique style and creative approach, Serge continues to bring fresh ideas to Rwanda’s growing film industry.
Over the years, Serge has directed several short films that gained attention among local cinema lovers. Notable works include the action series Duty, which currently has three parts, and the action-drama Rebe. His body of work showcases a strong passion for storytelling through action-packed narratives, making his films stand out.
Although Serge has not yet directed or written a feature film on his own, he played a key role in the feature film Ace of Heart, which was screened once in local cinemas. While he did not direct this project, it helped increase his visibility in the industry. So far, he has not announced any plans to direct a full-length feature film.
In addition to filmmaking, Serge has directed several music videos—especially those that feature intense action sequences, stunts, and cinematic lighting. If you’ve seen a Rwandan music video with gunfights, fights, or special effects, chances are Serge was behind the scenes.
Last month, Serge announced his upcoming project Dark Shujaa on social media. The film combines action, horror, and supernatural elements—genres he often blends in his work. The trailer is already available on the RebaFrame Instagram, YouTube channel, and official website.
Dark Shujaa continues Serge’s tradition of raising the bar with each project. As the Rwandan film industry evolves, directors like Serge are helping to shape its future with bold and original productions.
In Dark Shujaa’s cast, Serge brought back actor and fashion designer Yanick Nshimirimana, popularly known as Lii. He previously starred in DUTY from Part 1 through Part 3, so it’s no surprise the two know each other well. But that’s not the only place Lii has made his mark in the film industry — he’s also part of the ongoing TV show Kaliza wa Kalisa on Zacu TV, among many other projects.
Speaking of Lii, it’s hard not to notice the standout costume design in Dark Shujaa. While it’s unclear whether he had a hand in designing the costumes, whoever did deserves serious applause — the work was nothing short of impressive. Whether Lii was involved or not, credit is due to the designer for a job very well done.
Another standout is a performer known as Alien Monster, famous for his parkour skills and stunt performances shared widely on social media. He brings his talent to the big screen in this film, performing stunts and portraying supernatural powers crafted by Serge.
