Breaking into Rwanda’s music scene presents a significant challenge for many artists, and even after making their mark, the journey remains tough. Without strong management teams or established record labels, many Rwandan musicians are left to navigate the industry independently. This tough landscape has hindered the industry’s growth and made it harder for artists to flourish.
One such artist who has faced these struggles head-on is Khida B, also known for his unique KMG style. Khida initially entered the music scene a few years ago and released his debut track, killer. However, despite the potential, the song was released unfinished, which led to complications and setbacks. Discouraged by the results, Khida decided to step away from the music scene and shifted his focus to the clothing business, opening a store in downtown Kigali.

Despite his shift into business, Kidha’s love for music has remained unwavering. Last month, he made a strong comeback to the industry with the release of a new single titled KMG Style, now available for streaming on YouTube.

When asked about what inspired his return to music, Kidha shared, “When music is truly in your soul, you can’t escape it. It’s a part of who you are.” He explained that music had always been at the core of his life, and even during his time away, it was something he never stopped thinking about. His decision to return to the industry was sparked after reconnecting with his friend, Gurin, who motivated him to dive back into music. This encouragement, along with his own relentless passion, fueled his comeback.

Khida also spoke about the synergy between his two pursuits: fashion and music. “As I said, music is in me. And when it comes to fashion, that part is culture,” he explained. To him, clothing and making music are intertwined, as both involve a deep sense of creativity and identity. He believes that just like a good song, high-quality clothing sells itself.

As for what’s next, Kidha is staying open to possibilities. When asked if he’s working on an album, EP, mixtape, or singles, he replied, “I’m not sure how the songs will come, but they’re there.”
