Umuheto Creative Collaborates with Franco and Joshua to Debut His New Collection “Isoko”

Olivier HARERIMANA, a young but remarkably talented designer, has been active in Rwanda’s fashion industry from an early age. His continuous involvement in various fashion-related projects has helped build his reputation and demonstrate his skill, leading him to establish his own fashion house: Umuheto Creative. Now, Olivier has taken a bold new step by launching his first-ever collection titled “Isoko”.

To showcase this debut collection, Umuheto Creative partnered with Webest Model Management, and notably, Franco himself was among the models presenting every outfit in the collection. We had the opportunity to sit down for exclusive interviews with both Franco and Joshua, the featured models, as well as Olivier himself. In this feature, you’ll get a first look at the very first outfit from the “Isoko” collection and the full interviews with the creative team—so be sure to read through to the end.

The “Isoko” collection is rooted deeply in Rwandan culture, as is typical of Olivier’s creative direction. In his own words, he describes the collection:

“You can recognize it through the elements used—like ‘imishanana’, traditional fabrics, or old patterns and accessories. These are things from our cultural past, now redesigned in a way that still connects with our Rwandan identity.”

He further explained that all pieces in this collection are culturally inspired but blended with a modern-classic feel. Traditionally, Olivier’s designs have focused on wedding wear and special event outfits, always with a classic aesthetic, and this collection continues that tradition with a cultural twist

“Isoko” comprises seven outfits, which will be revealed in phases. Today, we focus on the first piece, named “Rudahigwa”, inspired by the legendary Rwandan king. “Rudahigwa” is a regal, timeless piece in line with the rest of the collection. The design, its name, and the craftsmanship all reflect nobility and elegance. Model Franco Kabano shared his thoughts:

“Among all the outfits I wore in this collection, ‘Rudahigwa’ gave me a real boost of confidence.”

Olivier mentioned that this is only Season 1 of the Isoko Collection. He plans to release more collections in the future:

“Isoko is like a spring—it doesn’t run dry. That’s why this collection won’t stop here,” he said.

When asked about the inspiration behind the collection, he emphasized, as always, culture—but with a new twist. He wants the pieces to be worn in modern ways, like mixing a traditional ‘umwitero’ with a suit: a perfect blend of the old and new.

It’s not common for young designers to unveil a collection with big names from both fashion and entertainment like Franco and Joby. However, due to Olivier’s past work and collaborations with them, they chose to support him by being part of the Isoko Collection launch.

Franco KABANO, a Rwandan talent manager and founder of webest model management modeling agency, focuses on discovering new talent, training them, and helping them break into the international modeling scene. When we asked how the collaboration with Olivier came about, he said:

“It all started with another project Olivier worked on with my agency. Some of my models reached out, saying someone asking to collaborate had contacted them. I checked out his work and i was impressed, so I agreed. After that project, Olivier asked me directly to be involved in this new idea—‘Isoko’—and I saw great potential in it, so we went for it.”

Regarding the working relationship between Franco, Joby, and olivier, all parties expressed mutual appreciation. Both Franco and Joby praised Umuheto Creative’s professionalism, and in turn, olivier was impressed by their dedication to showcasing the designs.

This collaboration wasn’t purely business. It was born out of long-standing friendships and past joint projects. Both Franco and Joshua are not easy to pin down, especially Joshua, for whom fashion is more of a side hustle. Yet, they all came together to support Umuheto Designs, as Olivier is someone close to them—and more importantly, his designs are worth supporting.

Olivier hasn’t yet announced when Season 2 of the Isoko Collection will be released. He stated it will depend on how Season 1 performs in terms of sales and public reception:

“Everything comes down to finances. If people buy and wear Isoko pieces, and I see the possibility to reinvest, there’s no doubt the next season will follow soon.”

For those interested in owning a piece from the Isoko Collection, Olivier has a showroom located at KABC in Kimihurura. Don’t miss your chance to explore this exciting debut—see you next!
